Because of its distinctiveness and complexity, each cancer needs a tailored, comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach. For this purpose, there exists a Tumour Board in SCCH that includes specialists with various expertise who decide collectively the best possible treatment plan to go about. All cases are reviewed regularly at Tumour Board and thus patients have access to a diverse team of cancer experts instead of relying on a single opinion.
You have the right to be an active, informed participant in your care. It’s OK to ask your doctor if or why your case was discussed at a tumor board. Or if it wasn’t, why not?
Some of the distinct advantages of multi-disciplinary care include
- Improved Patient care
- Staging Accuracy
- Receiving care in accordance with clinical practice and standard guidelines.
- Improved communication
- Cost-effective care
- Improved clinical and patient satisfaction
